I’ve been wanting to ride up Mt Nebo for a while and finally quit vacillating this morning. I passed in the Redcliffe bunch ride and headed off alone along Waterworks road.

Toughest part was the start but once you get to the ridge, its up-down until the top which gives you a breather.

• 2004 Yarra Valley Shantell Pinot Noir: tangy citrus nose with lovely refined berry fruit flavours. Pleasing strawberry colour. Recommended. #

• 2003 Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot: lovely dark fruits and interesting structure. Great with our Greek meal – recommended. #

• 2007 Musician Shiraz Cabernet: decent nose but quite reserved on the palette. A little flat for my liking – maybe lacking depth/structure. #
